Gates Mills

From the Mayor - Sept 2021
Wednesday, Nov. 17th

Dear Villagers,

Summer is coming to an end soon, as area schools have started a new academic year. Please continue to keep up the good work fighting and preventing the spread of COVID-19. We will get through these tough times by all working together and thinking of others.

Summer and fall storms may lead to power outages in the Village. We need everyone, including those with a generator, to report power outages to First Energy at 888-LIGHTSS (888-544-4877) or online at www.firstenergycorp.com. First Energy prioritizes responses based on the number of outages reported in an area, so it is always important to report your outage in order to get First Energy’s attention.

Our summer events have all wrapped up. The Gates Mills Nature Camp had a very good run. It worked out well and the campers were very happy! Our July Summer Band concert with Red Light Roxy had a great turnout. The Village has some very nice dancers! The balloon artist was a hit with both parents and kids.

I have received some feedback from residents regarding barking dogs. Please be considerate of your neighbors, if you own a dog, and bring them inside if they are barking.

As we begin September, our 50th Anniversary of the Gates Mills Art Show is occurring. You can visit the show through September 12th. The hours are from noon – 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on the weekends. The show is free to visit and well worth your time to enjoy the talent of so many area artists.

We have some other important events happening this fall. On September 8, from 6:00–7:30 p.m., the Gates Mills Land Conservancy will be hosting a Town Hall meeting. The Village’s Conservation Levy Renewal will be on the November ballot. Council is working with our Gates Mills Land Conservancy in support of this levy. Please try to attend the meeting to hear about this important issue.

The Gates Mills Improvement Society is hosting a Candidate’s Night on September 22nd from 7:00-9:00 p.m. There are six candidates running for four council positions. You will receive information prior to the event in the mail. The event will be held in the Village Community House upper level. The Gates Mills Improvement Society will post a recording of the event on its website, but you are encouraged to attend in-person to hear from your candidates.

We hope to start our Master Plan process with CT Consultants toward the end of October. If you have an interest in serving on a committee, please contact me at mayor@gatesmillsvillage.com or call Jean or Dorothy at Town Hall, 440-423-4405. We will be reaching out again to people we had contacted over a year or so ago to check for availability and interest. The Advisory Group will be leading many subcommittees. The process is expected to run at least a year or more.

Hoping for less rain and a beautiful fall in our Village!
