Before the traveling Neighborhood Parade moves through the streets in your area on July 4th, take a stroll down memory lane by watching highlights of parades over the past thirty-five years. You may catch a glimpse of your family, friends, and neighbors. (Did we really dress that way?) These pictures and videos were graciously provided by Villagers who scanned their albums for the best depictions of July 4th celebrations in the Village.
See the Gentlemen Farmers in tuxedos, the Song Birds, vintage fire trucks, the Color Guard, the Chagrin Valley Hounds, decorated floats, the Cleveland Kiltie Band, antique cars, former mayors and council members, and Joseph Iacobucci singing the national anthem. And there is more.
We cannot fail to memorialize the special circumstances of 2020, so this virtual parade includes inspirational messages from Village clergy Rev. Ann Kidder and Father John Blazek, Trustee of the Improvement Society Clark Langmack, Mayor Karen Schneider, and President of the Improvement Society Chip AuWerter. Special guest speakers include Simran Sarkar, the Gates Mills Elementary School winner of the 4th grade essay contest who will recite the Pledge of Allegiance and her winning essay, and Captain Michael McCartney, U.S. Navy, the son of Arch and Emily McCartney.
Special thanks are extended to Greg Nagle of Gilmour Academy and Michael Borovitz of the Mayfield City Schools District for producing this video.
