Gates Mills

From the Mayor - November 2021
Wednesday, Nov. 17th

Dear Villagers,

Fall is here! Our green trees are turning beautiful reds and oranges. Autumn also means Daylight Savings Time ends. Remember to change your clocks on Sunday, November 7th when we “fall back” one hour.

We held many events in October! On October 5th, our Fire Department hosted the Cub Scouts for a “Touch a Truck” event. It was a beautiful evening with lots of outside fun for everyone. Sunday, October 10th, we had an ice cream family social. There was a great turn out to enjoy fun and treats! The Police Department held a Crime Prevention meeting on October 11th. Officer Newsome ran the evening with Hunting Valley’s Sergeant Fatica. There was a lot of helpful information presented. The event will be available soon on the Police Department’s webpage for viewing. There was a New Resident Social held at the Community House on October 22nd. Twenty-six new residents attended! There were ice breaker questions to get everyone acquainted. It was terrific to hear everyone’s story about how they came to Gates Mills. Thank you to Sandra Turner and Janet AuWerter for spearheading the event. Thank you also to Cathy DiVincenzo, Laura Cotton, Sue, Roby, Susan Oros, Gail Palmer, Jim Stafford, Barb Schuh, Lisa Reid and Mike Feig for assisting. The Village’s Halloween Event was held on October 29th as a drive through. Cars were filled with lots of goblins and ghosts. A big thank you is given to our Service Department, Community Building staff, Town Hall Coordinators and volunteers for all of the work preparing and setting up the event.

October has also brought us more power outages. Please remember to report your own house to First Energy anytime it happens. First Energy needs us to contact them to know where the outage is.

Please remember that Tuesday, November 2nd is Election Day. The Village has 6 people running for 4 seats on Council. We also have the Conservation Levy on the ballot. This one-mill levy was first approved in 1993! If you have not voted early, please vote on Election Day.

New for this year, we are having a “Holiday Decorating Contest!” Prizes will be awarded with pictures taken. A registration form is in The Pink Sheet or you may call Town Hall and submit your information to Jean or Dorothy at 440-423-4405. Registration will go through December 12th, with judging to follow.

Please remember to check to see if your house numbers are visible in both directions. Make sure you have “Your 911” on all cell phones of those living in your home. Please continue to be our eyes and ears.

Finally, I would like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for all of the community support in the Village and for the beautiful community that we call home.
