LIGHTS FOR LIONS

Do you have broken or used holiday lights and extension cords?  The Village of Gates Mills is joining with the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo to help protect lions and cheetahs in Tanzania.  Bring your broken, non-working or used strings of lights and extension cords to Town Hall or the Community House vestibule for recycling now through January 31, 2026.  Please do not include any packaging.  Proceeds from recycling support the Zoo’s lion and cheetah conservation program .

In partnership with Ruaha Carnivore Project and Lion Landscapes, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is working to mitigate human-carnivore conflicts and develop effective, long-term conservation strategies for large carnivores in Tanzania.  This organization helps reduce the negative impacts of carnivore presence by providing important conservation-related benefits to local communities.

When: December 1, 2025 through January 31, 2026

* Please note that the Zoo collection will run from November 01, 2025 through February 15, 2026. You can take your lights directly to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for recycling. Visit their website for more information.

Where: Drop off boxes are located in the Town Hall Vestibule (available 24/7) or the Community House.
